Summer Date Ideas.
My favorite part of every weekend is intentional quality time spent dating my husband.
Yet so often, when the weekend rolls around, we find ourselves struggling to come up with cute date ideas for ways to make memories together. There’s so much chatter around what to do, that making long weekend plans can sometimes become a stressful thing, when it surely shouldn’t be. So once upon a recent rainy day, I spent a little time dreaming up my favorite ways to spend a weekend, unconventionally.
Have a Bed Date.
The perfect way to spend a rainy day that threatens to ruin a weekend. It’s truly the best thing ever. We do everything in bed – we eat breakfast in bed, we snuggle with Osman in bed, binge watch TV or read a book in bed… you name it, we do it! When’s the last time you just stayed in bed all day when you’re not sick? It’s probably been a while, huh? Promise yourself: no housework, no checking email, no talking about work. Treat yourself to your very own “Bed Date.” You won’t regret it.
Have a backyard bonfire.
Just the two of you. We love having our friends over to our place, & a bonfire is one of our fave things to do in the summer. But, when was the last time you sat around a bonfire… just the two of you? Take turns playing DJ, switching back & forth who picks the song. Make gourmet s’mores, getting creative with different candy bars & unusual ingredients. Nothing screams “summer” like a backyard bonfire.
Plan a picnic.
Whether it’s a local park or you take a road trip to the nearest state park to include some hiking, a picnic is always romantic. Order your favorite takeout or chef something up. Grab a blanket, a good book to read aloud to each other, & (as in our case with Osman!) take your dog!
Speaking of hiking, one of the things on our summer date bucket list is to rent a cabin for a weekend & spend the days hiking & evenings making up ghost stories around the campfire!
See a drive-in movie.
How romantic, right?! Cuddling under the stars, curled up in a blanket & catching a flick… what a cute memory! A quick google search can tell you where to find the nearest drive-in theater.
Take in an outdoor concert or ball game.
There are two things that my husband loves… almost more than me… 1: live music, & 2: baseball.
One of our favorite summer date nights is to hit up an outdoor concert. We’re super fortunate to have a beautiful amphitheater in our town, that regularly showcases music events… & any excuse to be outside, doing something we love together is a dream date night in our book.
We also head to Chicago to catch a Cubs game at Wrigley a couple of times every season. Hubs is uh-bsessed with his beloved Cubbies & I’m always up for a beer at the ball diamond!
What are you favorite summer date ideas? I might have to steal yours & add them to my bucket list!
