Abu Dhabi Diaries.

When we discovered that our layover to Uganda was in Dubai, we decided to extend our trip on the front & back end to explore the UAE.

Abu Dhabi & Dubai have been on our travel bucket list for a long time, & this seemed like the perfect opportunity to cross them off.

Traveling is one of D. & I’s favorite hobbies. Immersing ourselves in new & unknown cultures, checking off all the touristy boxes & (my favorite part) sampling as much of the local food scene as possible… love!

Keep reading for everything we did in Abu Dhabi…

A private desert safari…

What will surely go down as one of the most memorable nights of my life!

Cruising through the desert & crashing through the dunes, falconing with a sheik, testing our athletic abilities via sand-boarding, watching the sun go down over the sand & eating a traditional Arabic dinner, just the two of us, under the stars… literally the stuff dreams are made of. & a definite “must do” if you find yourself in the UAE!

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque…

I had conducted a little research on the religion of Islam going in, & the reverence in this significant space was so peaceful & serene. The largest mosque in the country, it is the key place of worship for daily, Friday & Eid prayers. During Eid, it may be visited by more than 41,000 people.

I was provided with an abaya for my visit, as this is a place of Muslim worship, modesty is a must when visiting Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. That means no short, transparent or tight clothing–men & women must wear loose-fitting, ankle-length trousers or skirts, & have their arms covered.

The Qasr Al Watan…

An incredible, new & unique landmark in the Middle East. This palace is brimming with knowledge, insight into the Arab heritage, the history of the United Arab Emirates & its vision for the future. Hubs & I got our nerdy tourist vibes on & loved checking out the Qasr Al Watan!

Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Perhaps my favorite city in the world… or at the very least, one I definitely long to spend (much!) more time in, is Paris. I love the romanticism, the architecture, the history, the fashion, the art…

The UAE & France formed an unprecedented partnership for cultural exchange, & the highlight of this is… the establishment of Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island. Spending a day walking around this architectural marvel & taking in the exhibits (don’t miss the 10,000 years of luxury!) is another highly recommended thing to do in Abu Dhabi!

Have you visited Abu Dhabi? What would make your “must-visit” list?!
