5 Health Benefits of Matcha
Lately, I’ve been swapping out my coffee fix for matcha…
I feel like I get bonus points for this decision, because it’s so dang healthy for you!

What the heck is “matcha”?
First things first, we need to answer this question: Matcha is a finely ground powder of specially grown & processed green tea leaves. These tea leaves are specially grown in the shade before harvest, & the stems & veins of the leaves are removed during processing. The green tea powder is whisked into hot water, instead of steeped, to form a frothy drink. Matcha shots, lattes, teas & desserts appearing everywhere from health stores to coffee shops, making me ask the question: is matcha the new kale?
1. Matcha is high in antioxidants.
Matcha tea delivers a mega dose of antioxidants in every sip. Antioxidants are the body’s defense agents, & they are so so good for… Anti-aging! & helping to prevent chronic diseases. The more antioxidants you have, the better your body is able to fight infections & disease.
Get this: to even begin to match the potency found in a single serving of matcha, you would need to drink at least 10 cups of brewed green tea. When it comes to helping you achieve & maintain optimum health, matcha cannot be matched!
2. Matcha boosts metabolism & burns calories.
More magic from the matcha… & it has next-to-no calories. In fact, a recent study even suggests that matcha may help burn calories by four times! This totally makes sense, if you’ve ever read the ingredients in almost every weight loss supplement ever made… there’s a good chance that “green tea extract” will be found in the list.
3. Match boosts brain function.
Matcha promotes concentration & clarity of mind without any of the nervous energy found in coffee. It’s also been shown to improve attention, memory & reaction time. This green stuff is rich in L-Theanine, a rare amino acid that actually promotes a state of relaxation & well-being by acting upon the brains functioning.
4. Matcha is a natural detox.
Chlorophyll, the stuff that makes plants green, is also a powerful detoxifier, helping to eliminate both chemicals & heavy metals from our body. &… because matcha is grown carefully in the shade… it’s actually substantially richer in chlorophyll than other green teas, making it extra effective as a daily detox.

iced, with oat milk! & if you know anything about me at all, my kitchen skills are very restricted. I just don’t have the attention span to handle anything with more than a handful of ingredients or steps. So check this out:
3 Ingredient Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk
- 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
- 1 cup Oatly Oat Milk
- 1-2 teaspoons of honey
- Mix the matcha green tea powder with a little bit of water in a glass mason jar – just enough to form a paste. Stir it up until there are no clumps.
- Add the milk & honey. Cover with a tight-fitting lid & shake it up, until mixed well. Let sit for a minute, so any remaining clumps settle to the bottom. Carefully pour through a mesh strainer (clumps are gross…) into a glass over ice & enjoy!
